The Primal Stance Mat — Art You Practice On

When TEGO collaborated with artist Eric Jason D’Souza on the Primal Stance Mat, the idea was simple; this wasn’t something to be explained. It had to be experienced.

On a quiet April evening in Mumbai, a bamboo-lined studio set the stage for an intimate gathering. Led by Anvita Dixit, the session brought together a small group of media and our everyday athlete community — not for a launch, but for a first encounter.

Eric sets the context — walking the room through the mythology and intention behind the Primal Stance design. Each line, each form, rooted in something older, something instinctive.

Twelve mats, laid out beautifully. The deep black and burnt orange palette shifting the energy of the room — part gallery, part ground.

The practice begins.
Anvita guides the group into stillness. Breath-led, unhurried. The kind of session that asks you to pay attention — to movement, to contact, to what’s beneath you.
The mat does what it was designed to do; hold you in place, physically and mentally.

The close.
Singing bowls, open windows, soft bamboo light. Nothing added, nothing forced. Just a natural end to a grounded practice.

The Primal Stance Mat isn’t just a surface.
It’s a space you return to.
